NessyART

Artist Chiat Kwan Lau (Ness) started his art journey in his home country of Singapore. With a passion for graphic art, Ness moved to Australia to continue his education in Graphic Arts at a school in the heart of The Rocks district of Sydney. It was here he developed various different styles of pop and bold graphic work. Ness spent many years working as a Graphic Artist in the packaging and advertising industries.

In 2012 NessyART was created in conjunction with his partner Scott Succow. Using Ness’s designs, the pair started selling canvases, prints and merchandise at markets around Sydney. A couple years later NessyART would exhibit different canvas series at venues around Darlinghurst and end up as a part of the artist collective at The Makery on Oxford Street.

Between 2012 and 2017 Ness created a large portfolio of Pop Art and developed a passionate following both in Australia and internationally.

In 2017 Ness suffered a major breakdown, he suffered from deep depression and anxiety. This made creating new designs impossible.

With the large portfolio of Pop Art previously created for NessyART, Scott continued the journey opening the ‘POP on the Rocks’ gallery steps away from where Ness studied Graphic Arts. The vision of the gallery is to “Brighten lives through Pop Art.” In honour of Ness’s struggles, the opening of the gallery benefited beyondblue, which supports those dealing with depression and anxiety. A percentage of all canvas sales was donated to both local and international charities.

The gallery was open for 2 years and was a major part of Ness's recovery. Ness has begun creating new artwork again and now NessyART will continue through our online store and through exhibitions, pop up galleries, markets and more.

Our latest Pop Up gallery was at Marrickville METRO on Smidmore Street. Watch this space for upcoming Pop Up locations coming soon.

Through NessyART, both Ness and Scott continue to brighten lives through Pop Art.
